Bill and Sam Convertible Conversion

So Sam and I picked up a set of rollers today, which is what was keeping us from putting the suspension and big brakes on. We had 16s, 17s and some four-lug stuff, but no 18s or larger. These are salt checked, but should clean up nicely and will work great until we can get it all put together and play with some fitting options. Not my favorite GT 500 wheels, but the set of four cost Sam $250, so not too bad.

So Sam and I spent about three hours together on the 86 today. We stripped off the old front suspension and mocked up the tubular. We put the GT500 wheels on, but don't have any wheel spacers, so not a roller solution yet. We will likely through a set of SN-95 wheels on it when we are ready to roll it, but it was fun to see it. The wheels will space out at a bit when we put the S&S brake spacer for the XTS calipers. We haven't picked tire sizes and permanent wheels. We won't do that until we get the widebody installed. Until then, we will just space these 18s function as long term rollers. We also experienced some minor tool carnage, so we will have to get new spring compressors and a couple of other little things. We did the springs the sketchy way with a jack, so not isolators and not the KBP springs. It is always nice spending time with my son.

Any of you that have followed my posts over years know that I would rather do just about anything that wiring. So the picture will tell you that I have pretty much finished rewrapping and retucking the dash wiring harness. I still have a bit of work to do to finish tidying things up. I did have to make several repairs where wires had rubbed. I also have some figuring out to do, but progress was made:
