I've been researching info for swapping a 95 mark 8 engine into an '86 4 cyl notch and stumbled onto you here. Picked up both about a month ago and really anxious to get my parts list together so I can get started collecting all the parts. Here's what my plan is so far...
Freshen the engine, port the heads, change to some "lopey" but still streetable cams, 96-98 ported cobra intake, long tubes and full exhaust, T56 and 3.73 or 4.10 gears. When finished I'd like a quick street car with a/c, cruise, etc that is reliable enough to drive anywhere in relative comfort with reasonable gas mileage.
It seems like the smartest move would be to get a 96-04 V8 parts car,(saw a fox with a 96 dash and seats online..pretty cool) for most of the mechanical pieces. What concerns me is the electrical side of the swap, I'm a toolmaker by trade...not an electrician.
Looking forward to learning from your expierences so feel free to chime in!
